Ole Miss Softball’s Madi George, Persy Llamas Earn All-SEC Honors
OXFORD, Miss. — The University of Mississippi softball team announced that freshmen Madi George and sophomore Persy Llamas have been named to the All-SEC second team, according to the SEC on Friday.
George joins an elite group as the 13th Rebel to earn All-SEC honors and is the first freshman in program history to receive the accolade alongside Amanda Fine and Stephanie Vaglica, both from 1997. She is also a top-10 finalist for the NFCA Freshman of the Year.
The Leander, Texas native has had a standout first season, hitting .385 with 21 home runs, 58 RBIs, nine doubles, and 27 walks. She set school records for home runs, RBIs, and total bases this season. George ranks tied for fifth in the SEC in home runs and is one of just two freshmen in the conference to hit 20 or more homers.
Her postseason performance includes two RBIs in Ole Miss’ victory over No. 5 Tennessee in the second round of the SEC Tournament.
Llamas, who has built on her impressive freshman year, recorded a career-high 70 hits, batting .374 with nine home runs, seven doubles, and 39 RBIs. Her 70 hits rank sixth in school single-season history. She also boasts a .996 fielding percentage with 434 putouts, placing her among the top in program history for fielding and putouts.
