Ole Miss softball falls to No. 15 LSU 6-4 in Baton Rouge
BATON ROUGE, La. — Ole Miss softball lost a heartbreaker to No. 15 LSU on Friday, falling 6-4 in Baton Rouge. The Rebels (27-19, 2-14 SEC) carried a late lead but couldn’t prevent LSU from rallying in the sixth inning.
LSU opened the scoring with a solo home run in the first inning. Ole Miss responded quickly, with Madi George launching her 16th home run of the season in the second inning to tie the game at 1-1. Emilee Boyer kept LSU off the board for the next three innings, striking out two batters and making a key play in the third.
The Rebels took the lead in the fifth inning. A walk to Taylor Malvin, an error by LSU, and a passed ball set up Mackenzie Pickens, who grounded out for an RBI to make it 2-1. Persy Llamas then hit a two-run homer to center, extending the advantage to 4-1.
However, LSU responded in the sixth, starting with an RBI single. An inside-the-park home run followed, giving the Tigers a 6-4 lead. Ole Miss threatened in the seventh, with hits from Malvin and Bunker, but LSU’s defense held, sealing the victory.
The teams are set for a rematch Saturday at 5 p.m. CT, which will be streamed on SEC Network Plus. Ole Miss continues SEC play as they aim to bounce back from the loss.
Ole Miss’s pitching was led by Emilee Boyer, who took the loss, while Paytn Monticelli earned the win for LSU. The game featured home runs from George and Llamas for Ole Miss and from Kylee Edwards and Tori Edwards for LSU.
