Ole Miss Softball Hosts Southern Miss in Non-Conference Finale
The University of Mississippi softball team will host Southern Miss on Tuesday at 6 p.m. CT at the Ole Miss Softball Stadium. The game marks the end of the Rebels’ non-conference schedule, with Ole Miss holding a 27-21 record and Southern Miss at 30-19, according to university athletics.
Ole Miss enters the game after a series of notable performances, including a historic showing by junior Cassie Reasner, who recorded two home runs and seven RBIs in a game against Memphis. Reasner has been hitting .486 over her last 10 games, with five home runs and 11 RBIs, as reported by the university.
Ole Miss has faced a challenging schedule this season, considered the second most difficult in the nation, trailing only Arkansas. The team has already played 13 non-conference games outside Oxford, winning 8 of those. Six upcoming games against top-30 RPI teams, including Auburn and Mississippi State, will test their postseason prospects.
The Rebels recently made history by securing their first series win in Knoxville, taking two of three games from No. 4 Tennessee. Pitching and defense were key in that series, with complete games from Emilee Boyer and Kyra Aycock and strong defensive plays supporting the effort. Offensively, Kennedy Bunker and Madi George contributed home runs, helping Ole Miss claim the historic victory.
National recognition continues for the Rebels, with three players ranked in Softball America’s March Position Power Rankings. Freshman Madi George was named the No. 11 utility player nationally, while Persy Llamas and Mackenzie Pickens earned top-15 spots at first and second base, respectively. George also ranks as the No. 19 outfielder in April.
Ole Miss’s success has been linked to the production of key middle-of-the-order hitters. Llamas and George have driven in many runs, and their combined RBIs have helped the team maintain a winning record when both are productive. Llamas, a standout since her freshman year, has already amassed eight home runs and 36 RBIs this season, with aspirations to climb into the Ole Miss record books.
Freshman Madi George has emerged as a star, leading in home runs, RBIs, and on-base percentage. She broke the school’s single-season home run record at LSU and is nearing other records, including total bases and RBIs. Her versatile fielding and hitting prowess position her as a potential record-setter for the program.
The Rebels look to cap their non-conference schedule with a win before shifting focus to SEC play, where they face a formidable schedule against top-ranked opponents. The game against Southern Miss offers a final opportunity to refine their lineup and build momentum heading into postseason action.
