Joao Iglesias ties record with 66 at GSC Championship as Mississippi College sits second
Dickson, Tenn. — Joao Iglesias fired a 6-under 66 Monday at the Gulf South Conference Men’s Golf Championship, tying the tournament record set in 2017. Iglesias’s performance helped Mississippi College finish the opening round in second place, one stroke behind first-round leader West Florida.
The 66 is the lowest first-round score in GSC Championship history, and Iglesias is only the fourth player to open with such a score. His round contributed to the Choctaws’ team score of 3-under 285 at Greystone Golf Club.
Mississippi College trails West Florida (284, -4) and is closely followed by Lee (287, -1) and Valdosta State (290, +2). The tournament continues with 36 holes remaining, keeping the race wide open.
In addition to Iglesias, other key contributions came from Jack McKie, who shot a 1-over 73 to tie for 13th. Ben Eichelberger carded a 4-over 76, tying for 25th, while Zach Robertson finished with a 5-over 77, tying for 28th. Todd McKie posted a 2-under 70, tying for 43rd and adding depth to the team. Linus Doverfors did not record a score in the first round.
With strong performances across the lineup, Mississippi College has positioned itself well to challenge for the conference title in the remaining rounds.
