Madi George Breaks Ole Miss Single-Season Home Run Record in Loss at No. 15 LSU

BATON ROUGE, La. — Ole Miss freshman Madi George made history Sunday, breaking the school’s single-season home run record during an 8-5 loss to No. 15 LSU. George hit two home runs on the day, driving in three runs and surpassing Lexie Brady’s previous record of 17 home runs.

George opened the scoring with a two-run homer that cleared the scoreboard and landed on the roof of the Mike Moore Performance Center in right field. The Rebels took an early 2-0 lead before LSU responded with two runs in the second inning. LSU then took the lead in the third after a throwing error that allowed two runs to score, making it 4-2.

Ole Miss (27-21, 2-16 SEC) regained the lead in the fourth inning. Kennedy Bunker hit a solo home run, and George and Cassie Reasner followed with back-to-back solo shots to put the Rebels ahead 5-4. George’s second home run of the game was her 18th of the season, setting a new school record.

The Tigers (32-14, 9-9 SEC) tied the game at 5-5 in the bottom of the fifth with a solo homer. In the sixth, LSU took the lead on an RBI triple and an error, pushing the score to 7-5. The Tigers added one more run in the inning and held off the Rebels in the seventh, securing the win despite Ole Miss loading the bases with two outs.

Ole Miss is scheduled to host Southern Miss on Tuesday at 6 p.m. CT in its final non-conference game. The game will be streamed via SEC Network Plus. The Rebels continue SEC play next weekend against Mississippi State.
