Mississippi College Walk-Off Downs No. 24 West Florida in Baseball
CLINTON, Miss. — Cade Gadman hit a walk-off single in the bottom of the ninth inning, guiding Mississippi College to a 5-4 victory over No. 24 West Florida on Friday at Frierson Field. The win improves the Choctaws’ record to 25-19 overall and 18-10 in Gulf South Conference play.
It was the sixth all-time series win for MC against West Florida, dating back to 2015, and their fourth at home. The game was tied 4-4 entering the ninth, when Tyler Sanderson singled and advanced to third on a throwing error. Gadman then delivered a single up the middle to score Sanderson and secure the win, the first walk-off hit for MC since Feb. 7, 2025.
The Argonauts (31-12, 17-11 GSC) scored twice in the ninth, including on a passed ball, to tie the game. MC capitalized on three UWF errors and overcame a late rally to earn the victory. Dylan Cope earned the win in relief, tossing a perfect ninth inning.
UWF struck first with Zack Stokes scoring on William Lybrook’s double in the opening inning. The Choctaws answered in the second when Alex Johnson hit his second home run of the week, tying the game. MC took the lead in the fifth inning after Murphy scored on Sanderson’s single. The home team added two more runs in the sixth, highlighted by Murphy’s two-run single.
Caleb Peterson started for MC, pitching 6.1 innings, allowing two runs — one earned — on five hits. He struck out six and walked six. The series continues Saturday with a 12 p.m. first pitch and Senior Day ceremonies prior to the game.
