NWCC Women’s Golf Finishes Sixth at Jefferson State Invitational
The Northwest Mississippi Community College women’s golf team finished sixth at the Jefferson State Women’s Spring Invitational held at Marcus Pointe Golf Club in Pensacola, Florida. The team shot a combined score of 122 over par, marking a 20-stroke improvement from their previous tournament last month, according to school officials.
AnaLeigh Little, a freshman, led the Rangers with a ninth-place finish. Despite not recording a birdie on the first day, Little avoided major mistakes, posting 12 pars and shooting seven-over par. On the second day, she birdied holes five and 16 but also had four bogeys, finishing nine-over for the day and 16-over for the tournament.
Bella McNeil, a sophomore, finished 16th overall. She shot 10-over on the first day, with half of her holes played at par. McNeil improved on day two, shooting 14-over, for a two-day total of 24-over. She birdied the 13th hole during the second round.
Madison Baker made the largest improvement among NWCC players, jumping 13 spots on the leaderboard from day one to day two. After a challenging first round at 27-over, Baker rebounded with a 12-over performance on the second day, finishing 41st overall. Her second-day score was the second-best among the team.
Sophomores Addison Forbes and Zaeja Davis also contributed to the team scoring. Forbes finished 50th with a total of 46-over par, highlighted by a birdie on the second day. Davis, who shot 28-over on day one and improved to 20-over on day two, finished 52nd overall. Her second-day performance placed her among the top four Rangers on that round, and her score counted toward the team total.
Freshman Sarah Niblett competed as an individual, finishing 47th. She shot 22-over on the first day and improved to 21-over on the second. The team will next compete at the Calhoun Women’s Spring Classic in Decatur, Alabama, on March 23-24 at Burningtree Golf Club.
