Northwest Mississippi Women’s Golf Opens in Ninth Place at NJCAA Division II Championship

The Northwest Mississippi Community College women’s golf team finished the first day of the NJCAA Division II Women’s Golf Championship in ninth place out of 15 teams. The team posted a score of 342, sitting three strokes behind a three-way tie for fifth and eight strokes ahead of the team in 10th.

Bella McNeil, a freshman, highlighted the day with her best round of the season. She started with four straight pars and finished with a two-under score on the final five holes, ending with a six-over 78. McNeil did not have any scores over bogey and finished even on the par threes for the day. Her performance put her in a tie for eighth place individually, according to the tournament organizers.

Close behind McNeil was Analeigh Little, who finished five strokes back with a total score. Little had a strong start with seven consecutive pars after beginning three-over on her first three holes. However, she struggled on the back nine, going seven over on the final eight holes, including a double bogey on the par-4 16th hole.

Zae’Ja Davis posted an 18-over 90, overcoming three triple bogeys and a double bogey. She scored a 41 on the front nine, highlighted by a birdie on the par-4 second hole. Madison Baker shot a total of 92, with a 45 on the front nine and a 47 on the back. She faced a nine on the par-5 third hole but rallied with four pars before turning in her score. Sarah Niblett finished with a total of 100, with two 50s on each nine, recording three pars and seven bogeys, including eight double bogeys or worse.

The tournament continues Wednesday with an 8 a.m. start for the Rangers. Sarah Niblett tees off first from the back nine, followed by Davis, Baker, McNeil, and Little at 8:09, 8:18, 8:27, and 8:36, respectively.
