Blue Mountain Christian Softball Ends Historic Season in Oklahoma City

OKLAHOMA CITY — The Blue Mountain Christian University softball team’s historic season came to an end Tuesday in Oklahoma City. The Toppers earned their first-ever NAIA National Opening Round victory before losing a close game to the top-seeded Oklahoma City University Stars.

Blue Mountain Christian finished the season with a school-record 39 wins and made its first appearance in the NAIA National Opening Round. The team also set multiple program records and secured the first national postseason victory in school history.

The day started with the Toppers defeating Williams Baptist University 4-3 in eight innings. They scored early, with Aspen Teague driving in an RBI and Kelsey Camp adding a sacrifice fly to take a 2-0 lead. An error in the third inning allowed Teague to score again, pushing the lead to 3-0. Williams Baptist rallied, tying the game in the sixth, but Neely Barrier scored the go-ahead run in the eighth after Laklyn Nichols delivered a go-ahead RBI single.

Madison Montgomery pitched six innings, striking out three, before Neely Cooper finished the game, allowing no hits over two innings and striking out three batters. Offensively, Teague led with three hits and two runs scored. Vaye Savage and Bre Ramsey added two hits each.

Later that evening, the Toppers faced Oklahoma City University, the tournament’s No. 1 seed. They played a tight game but fell 1-0 on an unearned run in the fourth inning, scored on a single by the host team. Cooper pitched the entire game, allowing seven hits and fanning five. Ramsey was the only Topper with a hit, and Fuqua and Ramsey worked walks in the game.

The loss marked the end of one of the most successful seasons in Blue Mountain Christian athletics history. The team finished 39-17-1, secured its first national postseason win, and set numerous school records. The seniors provided leadership that helped elevate the program and set a foundation for its future.
