Judd Utermark Breaks Ole Miss Home Run Record in Win Over UT Martin
OXFORD, Miss. — Judd Utermark, a senior third baseman, became Ole Miss baseball’s all-time home run leader Tuesday evening. He hit his 49th career home run in the Rebels’ 17-6 victory over UT Martin at Swayze Field.
Utermark’s first-inning home run marked a new program record, surpassing Kyle Gordon’s previous mark of 48, set nearly 40 years ago. Utermark finished the game 2-for-2 with three runs scored and two RBIs, helping Ole Miss improve to 35-18 on the season.
The Rebels’ offense was prolific throughout the game, finishing with 12 hits. Austin Fawley, Will Furniss, and Daniel Pacella each contributed two hits, with Fawley also hitting a home run and Furniss driving in a career-high five RBIs. Four other Ole Miss players recorded hits, including three from the starting rotation.
Ole Miss pitcher Owen Kelly earned the win after throwing two scoreless innings, striking out four. Starter Wil Libbert pitched three innings, allowing three hits and no earned runs. The Skyhawks’ Dean McCalla took the loss.
Utermark ignited the team with a two-run homer on the first pitch of the game. The Rebels exploded for 10 runs in the second inning, with Fawley driving in four RBIs including a two-run homer. Ole Miss continued to add to its lead with three more runs in the third inning and a solo shot from Brett Moseley in the fourth.
The Skyhawks scored four runs in the fifth inning, but Ole Miss responded with an insurance run in the sixth. Noah Allen closed the game on the mound, striking out two batters and recording a fielder’s choice.
Ole Miss will next face Alabama in Tuscaloosa starting Thursday. The game is scheduled for 6 p.m. CT and will be streamed on SECN+. Utermark’s historic home run highlights the Rebels’ offensive effort as they push toward postseason play.
