Northwest Mississippi Women’s Golf Finishes Seventh at NJCAA DII South District Championship
Oxford, Ala. — The Northwest Mississippi Community College women’s golf team finished seventh out of nine teams at the NJCAA Division II South District Championship at Cider Ridge Golf Club. The team shot a total score of 139 over two days, finishing just two strokes behind sixth place, according to school officials.
Freshman AnaLeigh Little led the team with a fourth-place finish. She opened with a score of 80 on day one, carding four birdies and six on-par holes. Little improved her score by one stroke on day two, ending with a seven-over par total for the event. Her consistency moved her up one position on the leaderboard.
Bella McNeil, another top performer for NWCC, finished 27th overall with a total score of 181, or 37-over par. She shot 17-over on day one, with two birdies, and 92 on day two, with nine on-par holes. McNeil made no birdies on day two but maintained solid consistency.
Other team members included Zaeja Davis, who finished 32nd with a combined score of 43-over par, and Madison Baker, who finished 34th at 45-over. Davis shot 22-over and 21-over on the two days, both days with four on-par holes. Baker’s scores were 19-over and 25-over, with four on-par holes on day one.
Sarah Niblett competed only on day one, finishing 49th with a score of 24-over. She birdied hole seven and shot five on-par holes. Addison Forbes, a substitute for Niblett on day two, finished 52nd with a score of 39-over, recording two on-par holes.
School officials noted that the team is ranked eighth nationally in NJCAA Division II and is hopeful for an at-large bid to the NJCAA DII Women’s Golf Championship, scheduled for May 12-15 at Ol’ Colony Golf Course in Tuscaloosa, Alabama. The team will learn of their postseason fate in the coming days.
