Mississippi Valley State Women’s Track & Field Finishes at SWAC Championships

BATON ROUGE, La. — The Mississippi Valley State University women’s track and field team competed at the Southwestern Athletic Conference Outdoor Championships over the weekend at A.W. Mumford Stadium. The Green and White finished with one point, placing 12th in the team standings.

Florida A&M took the team title with 145.5 points, followed by Alabama State with 132 and Southern with 95.5. Mississippi Valley State’s lone point came from Nyla Snead, who finished eighth in the heptathlon, highlighted by a fourth-place finish in the 100-meter hurdles with a time of 15.12 seconds. Snead also finished seventh in the long jump (4.88 meters) and javelin throw (19.17 meters), contributing to her overall score.

Other top performances for the Delta Devils included Poetrie Dace, who scored 2,842 points in the heptathlon, and Alaya Rhodes, who cleared 1.52 meters in the high jump. Additionally, Janet Cheboi posted a personal record in the 5,000 meters with a time of 21:04.52, and Brooklyn Brunt recorded her furthest shot put distance at 8.50 meters.

The relay team of Cayden Fluellen, Senyce Rene, Snead, and Dace narrowly missed scoring points, finishing ninth in the 4×100-meter relay with a time of 49.74 seconds. Jasmine Mackey was the fifth member of the relay team.
