Belhaven Blazers Wrap Up Strong Performance at CCS Track & Field Championships

JACKSON, Miss. — Belhaven University’s men’s and women’s track and field teams concluded their season at the CCS Championships with standout performances on their home track. The Blazers secured several event wins, set a conference record, and improved numerous personal bests, according to meet results.

Senior Neal Terry led the charge for the men, winning the triple jump with a mark of 15.11 meters. The performance set a CCS record and ranks third nationally in NCAA Division III this season. Terry also finished fourth in the high jump at 1.82 meters after winning the long jump earlier in the meet. Freshman Kenneth Mills added to the success, clearing 1.92 meters to win the high jump and earning 10 points for the team. Mills also posted an 11.00-second time in the 100-meter preliminaries and anchored the 4×100 relay team to a third-place finish in 42.28 seconds.

On the women’s side, Kimona Haynes claimed two titles. She ran a personal-best 54.80 seconds in the 400-meter preliminaries before winning the final in 58.85 seconds. She also took first in the 200 meters with a time of 24.66 seconds, improving her preliminary time. The women’s 4×400 relay team of Haynes, Courtney Adams, Brycelyn Townsend, and Myisha Turner finished first with a time of 4:12.90. The men’s 4×400 relay team of Julius Phillips, Leeson Taylor III, Seth Haynes, and Neal Terry placed third in 3:28.55.

Townsend captured the 100-meter hurdles title in 15.92 seconds, while Damian Sidelien contributed points with a second-place finish in the 400-meter hurdles at 59.35 seconds. Belhaven’s sprinters continued to perform well, with Phillips finishing fifth in the 400 meters at 50.48 seconds and fifth in the 200 meters in 22.55 seconds. Taylor also improved his times in the 400 meters. Drew Duckworth finished eighth in the 800 meters in 2:08.86, with Courtney Adams placing seventh in 2:35.89 for the women.

Field events remained a strong component for Belhaven. Alex Reed placed third in the triple jump with 13.44 meters and recorded a 7.00-meter jump in the long jump. Mallory Golden finished second in the high jump at 1.55 meters. Yasmyne McCann posted consistent performances, finishing second in the 100 meters at 12.78 seconds and fourth in the 200 meters at 26.42 seconds after preliminaries.

The team concluded the meet with the men finishing sixth overall with 81 points and the women fifth with 75 points.
