Belhaven Athletes Kimona Haynes, Neal Terry Earn All-American Honors at NCAA Championships
LA CROSSE, Wis. — Belhaven seniors Kimona Haynes and Neal Terry wrapped up their collegiate track and field careers Saturday at the NCAA Division III Outdoor Championships, earning All-America honors.
Terry finished third in the men’s triple jump with a school-record mark of 15.36 meters (50 feet, 4.75 inches). The senior surpassed his previous best of 15.11 meters, set earlier this season when he won the CCS Championship and broke the conference record. His opening jump was 14.65 meters, and after fouling on his second attempt, he achieved his record on his third jump, holding the lead through the finals and earning first-team All-America honors. Terry’s performance marked the second time this outdoor season he surpassed 50 meters in the triple jump. He leaves Belhaven as one of the most decorated athletes in CCS history, with nine career first-team all-conference selections and three consecutive CCS Field Athlete of the Meet awards.
Earlier this spring, Terry set the CCS long jump record with a 7.31-meter (24 feet, 0.25 inches) leap at the Rhodes 7-Way Meet and won both the long jump and triple jump titles at the conference championships.
Haynes finished ninth in the women’s 400 meters with a time of 55.84 seconds. She qualified for the final after running 55.40 seconds in the prelims, earning the eighth and final spot. The senior was one of the top sprinters in the South Region throughout her career. She was named the CCS Women’s Track Athlete of the Year for a second straight season after posting conference-leading times in the 100, 200, and 400 meters. Her personal-best 54.80 seconds in the 400 at the CCS Championships set the pace for her postseason run, maintaining her status as a conference record-holder. Haynes also set personal records in the 100 and 200 meters, with times of 12.04 and 24.26 seconds, respectively, at the Southern Miss Invitational and Belhaven Invitational. She ends her career as one of the most accomplished athletes in conference history, holding CCS records for nine career first-team all-conference selections and 15 total all-conference honors.
