Belhaven Track & Field Athletes Earn USTFCCCA All-Region Honors
JACKSON, Miss. — Six athletes from Belhaven’s track and field program earned NCAA Division III All-Region honors from the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association on Thursday. The recognition highlights standout seasons for the Blazers, with three athletes receiving honors across six events.
Senior Neal Terry was among the top performers. He earned All-Region recognition in both the long jump and triple jump after record-setting campaigns. Terry claimed conference titles in both events at the CCS Championships and was named the CCS Field Athlete of the Meet for the third consecutive year. His long jump of 7.31 meters (23 feet, 11.75 inches) at the Rhodes 7-Way Meet broke his own conference record of 7.30 meters and ranked among the top in NCAA Division III this season. He also set a conference record in the triple jump with a mark of 15.11 meters (49 feet, 7 inches), which was third-best in Division III at the time.
Terry leaves the conference as the all-time leader with nine First Team All-Conference selections. Freshman Kenneth Mills also earned All-Region honors, clearing 2.00 meters (6 feet, 6.75 inches) in the high jump at the Lee Last Chance Meet. Mills finished fourth at the CCS Championships and became one of the team’s top field contributors this season.
On the women’s side, Kimona Haynes received All-Region honors in the 100-meter, 200-meter, and 400-meter dashes. The senior qualified for the NCAA Division III Outdoor Championships in the 400 meters, advancing to the final after running a personal-best 54.80 seconds in the preliminaries. She also posted conference-leading times in all three sprint events, including a 12.04 in the 100 meters and a 24.26 in the 200 meters. Haynes’s 54.80 in the 400 set a new personal record and earned her CCS Athlete of the Year honors for the second straight season.
Haynes capped her career as one of the most decorated athletes in conference history, setting CCS records for career First Team All-Conference selections with nine and overall all-conference honors with 15.
