Alcorn State Track & Field Shines at LSU Alumni Gold Meet
BATON ROUGE, La. — Alcorn State University’s track and field team recorded strong performances over the weekend at the Alumni Gold meet hosted by LSU at Bernie Moore Track Stadium.
On the women’s side, Izayla Harris posted her season-best time in the 100-meter dash, finishing ninth with a time of 11.49 seconds. Harris also ran the second-fastest 200-meter of the season for the team, placing seventh in 23.55 seconds. Sariah Magee contributed a top-20 finish in the 200 meters with a time of 24.27 seconds. Sanaa Parker finished 12th in the 40-meter hurdles in 1:00.97, her second-fastest mark of the outdoor season.
The women’s 4×100 relay team, consisting of Brianna Wilson, Magee, Taliya Spurlock and Harris, finished fourth with a season-best time of 45.35 seconds. Kaylin White also competed well in the long jump, leaping 5.74 meters (18 feet, 10 inches).
On the men’s side, Derrick Williams finished ninth in the 100-meter dash in 10.41 seconds, his second-fastest outdoor time. He also posted a personal-best 20.68 seconds in the 200 meters, finishing eighth overall. Trellas Forrest ran a season-best 47.13 seconds in the 400 meters and placed 16th. He also finished 23rd in the 200 meters with a time of 21.22 seconds, his second-fastest of the season.
The Braves will compete next at the Southwestern Athletic Conference outdoor championships, scheduled for May 10-12 at A.W. Mumford Stadium on the campus of Southern University in Baton Rouge.
