Jackson State sweeps Alabama A&M with 13-5 victory in series finale
HUNTSVILLE, Ala. — Jackson State claimed its Southwestern Athletic Conference series against Alabama A&M with a 13-5 win Sunday at Bulldog Field. Hederick Torres led the Tigers with a 4-for-5 effort, including two runs scored and four RBIs, and added a double.
The Tigers totaled 17 hits in the game, with four players recording multiple hits. Pierre Cabral went 3-for-6 with two doubles, a run scored, and an RBI. Tyree Reed finished 2-for-4 with his team-leading eighth home run of the season, two runs scored, and three RBIs. Tyshon Patty and Isaac McClenty each added two hits, with McClenty also scoring a run. Edwin Lemus Hudson Jr. contributed two hits, including a triple.
Jackson State trailed 2-1 after two innings but scored eight runs in the third inning to take control. Reed’s three-run home run on a 2-1 pitch sparked the rally, pushing the Tigers ahead 9-2. The team added one more run in the fourth and three in the fifth to seal the victory.
Derek Arrocha, the reigning SWAC Pitcher of the Week, earned his second straight win. He pitched six innings, allowing five runs on nine hits with five strikeouts. Trae Burton finished the game with three scoreless innings, recording three strikeouts and earning his first save of the season.
Alabama A&M scored its first run in the bottom of the first inning and added a third in the third. Zak Rice drove in a run in the fifth for the Bulldogs, but the Tigers maintained their lead through the final innings.
