Mississippi State’s Reese, Valincius Earn All-America Honors from Baseball America
STARKVILLE, Miss. — Mississippi State’s Ace Reese and Tomas Valincius earned All-America honors from Baseball America on Friday. Reese was named a unanimous first-team All-American, while Valincius secured second-team honors, according to the publication.
Reese, a junior third baseman from Canton, Texas, is making his eighth career All-American appearance. He was the only Bulldog to start all 62 games this season, batting .336 with 23 doubles, 24 home runs and 74 RBIs. Reese’s home run total ranks fourth in school history, and his 45 career homers tie for ninth all-time at Mississippi State. He is the third player in school history to hit 20 or more home runs in back-to-back seasons, joining Will Clark and Rafael Palmeiro.
Valincius, a sophomore left-hander, posted an 11-2 record with a 3.50 ERA in 16 starts. He struck out 134 batters in 97 2/3 innings, the eighth-highest single-season total in school history. His 86 conference strikeouts led the SEC, and opposing hitters batted just .230 against him.
Mississippi State is one of 11 programs to have multiple players honored by Baseball America this year. The Bulldogs have a total of 87 All-Americans in program history, earning 176 honors overall. Reese previously received All-America recognition from Perfect Game and the ABCA, while Valincius earned similar honors from the NCBWA and Perfect Game.
