Six Mississippi State Baseball Players Named ABCA All-Region
STARKVILLE, Miss. — Six Mississippi State baseball players were named to the American Baseball Coaches Association (ABCA) South All-Region teams on Tuesday, according to the school. Four players earned first-team honors and two were named to the second team.
Third baseman Ace Reese, outfielder Jacob Parker, designated hitter Noah Sullivan, and pitcher Tomas Valincius made the first team. First baseman Reed Stallman and second baseman Gehrig Frei were selected for the second team. Reese and Sullivan each received the honor for the second consecutive season, the school said.
Reese, a junior from Canton, Texas, batted .336 with 23 doubles, 24 home runs and 74 RBIs, starting all 62 games this season. He became the third player in program history with back-to-back 20-plus home run seasons, joining Will Clark and Rafael Palmeiro. His 24 homers rank fourth in school history for a single season, and his 45 career homers tie him for ninth all-time at Mississippi State, the school said.
Parker, a freshman from Purvis, set a school record with 18 home runs and posted a .339 batting average with 62 RBIs. He appeared in 53 games, starting 44, and finished second on the team in homers and RBIs. Sullivan, a graduate from Orlando, Florida, started 54 games as a designated hitter and three at first base. He hit .342 with 13 homers, 75 hits and a .451 on-base percentage, which ranked second on the team.
Valincius, a sophomore left-hander, went 11-2 with a 3.50 ERA. He struck out 134 batters over 97 2/3 innings, with opposing hitters batting .230 against him. His 134 strikeouts rank among the school’s top single-season totals. Stallman played in 57 games, hitting .318 with 13 homers and 55 RBIs. Frei, in his final college season, hit .325 with 12 doubles, 12 homers and 47 RBIs, appearing in 59 games.
