Mississippi State’s Jacob Parker Named Perfect Game’s Freshman of the Year
STARKVILLE — Mississippi State outfielder Jacob Parker has been named Perfect Game’s National Freshman of the Year, the organization announced Tuesday. Parker, a 6-foot-3, 220-pound freshman from Purvis, set a school record with 18 home runs this season.
He also posted a .339 batting average and drove in 62 RBIs, making him the second-leading hitter on the team in homers and RBIs. Parker appeared in 53 games and started 44 this spring, adding 10 doubles, one triple, and seven stolen bases.
This marks the first time a Mississippi State player has earned Perfect Game’s Freshman of the Year honor since J.T. Ginn in 2019. Parker is the fourth Bulldogs player to receive the award overall and the first since Christian MacLeod in 2020.
In addition to the Perfect Game honor, Parker was named a first-team Freshman All-American by the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association, a first-team All-Region selection by the American Baseball Coaches Association, and was named SEC Freshman of the Year. He also earned the Most Outstanding Player award at the Starkville Regional and was SEC Freshman of the Week on March 23.
Parker was a Midseason second-team All-American by Perfect Game and one of five finalists for Baseball America’s Freshman of the Year. Fans can find more about Mississippi State baseball at www.HailState.com or follow the program on X, Facebook, and Instagram under ‘HailStateBB.’
