STARKVILLE — Mississippi State freshman outfielder Jacob Parker has been named one of five finalists for Baseball America’s Freshman of the Year award, the publication announced Tuesday. The Purvis native made an immediate impact for the Bulldogs, appearing in 48 games and earning 39 starts.

The 6-foot-3, 220-pound player received SEC Freshman of the Week honors on March 23 and was named a Midseason Second Team Freshman All-American by Perfect Game. Parker is joined by finalists from Texas, North Carolina and Stanford.
Baseball America will reveal its Freshman of the Year on June 11. The only Bulldog to earn the honor previously was Rafael Palmeiro in 1983. Other outlets have also recognized Mississippi State freshmen, including J.T. Ginn and Christian MacLeod.
