Mississippi State women’s golf concludes SEC Championship without advancing to match play
BELLEAIR, Fla. — Mississippi State’s women’s golf team finished 10th at the Southeastern Conference Championship, ending their run without qualifying for the match play portion of the event, according to the tournament leaderboard.
The Bulldogs finished with a team score of 6-over par, just outside the top eight cut. Avery Weed led the team with a tie for seventh place, her best SEC Championship finish in her third appearance. Weed shot a 2-over 72 in the final round for a three-day total of 4-under par.
Samantha Whateley also posted a notable performance, finishing 19th at 1-over par. She shot a team-best 1-under in the final round, marking her fifth top-20 finish of the season and the 14th of her career. The Bulldogs will await their postseason placement, which will be announced during the NCAA selection show on April 29 at 4 p.m. CT on Golf Channel.
Florida led the tournament, finishing with a score of 9-under par. Other top teams included Texas and Oklahoma at 3-under, with Auburn at 2-under. Mississippi State’s individual and team scores reflected a competitive but ultimately unsuccessful effort in the SEC Championship.
The Bulldogs will now prepare for upcoming postseason tournaments, with their next event scheduled for May 11, the NCAA regional round.
