Mississippi State Track and Field Heads to Wake Forest and Florida Meets

Mississippi State track and field will participate in its final regular-season away meets, splitting between the Wake Forest Invitational and the Tom Jones Memorial, according to the school’s athletic department.

The Wake Forest Invitational, hosted in Winston-Salem, North Carolina, is set for April 16 and 17. A small group of women’s distance runners will compete against a strong field, including All-SEC cross country runner Nelly Jemeli in the 3000-meter steeplechase for the first time this season. Naomi Jepleting, the program record holder in the 5,000 meters, will race in both the 5,000 and 10,000 meters.

Most of the Bulldogs will compete in Gainesville on Friday and Saturday at the Tom Jones Memorial, considered the most competitive meet of the season. The event features university and professional athletes from across the country. Mississippi State has six individuals and a relay team ranked in the top 30 nationally, all scheduled to compete.

On the track, Nicholas Fakorede holds the fifth-fastest 100-meter time in the nation, and the men’s 4×400-meter relay is ranked No. 22 nationally. The throws squad also boasts top-ranked athletes, including Roury McCloyen in the shot put, Kevin Grubbs in the discus, and Marie Rougetet in the hammer, all in the NCAA top 20. Tuomas Narhi and Kaylee Clark add depth with NCAA top-25 javelin marks.

Action begins Thursday evening at Wake Forest and continues through Saturday in Gainesville. For more information, visit HailState.com or follow the Bulldogs on X (formerly Twitter), Instagram, and Facebook under the handle ‘HailStateTF’.
