Jackson State Finishes Seventh at SWAC Golf Championship, Carpenter in Top 20
Jackson State finished seventh overall at the Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) Championships, held Monday through Wednesday at RTJ at Oxmoor Valley in Birmingham. The Tigers scored a total of 927 strokes over three rounds.
Trace Carpenter led the team with a 10-over-par 226, finishing tied for 18th. He opened with a 72 before carding rounds of 81 and 73. His teammate Kaden Tibbetts finished tied for 23rd with a 12-over 228 after two 75s and a 78.
Arkansas-Pine Bluff claimed the team title with a 12-over 876, while Florida A&M finished second at 880. Jackson State was 63 strokes over par overall.
Individually, Vincente Rodriguez of Alabama A&M led the field with a 2-under 214, followed by Yashal Shah of Texas Southern at 215. Several players finished at 217, with Alabama A&M’s Emilio Garcia and Arkansas-Pine Bluff’s Jules De Reu among the top scorers.
Jackson State’s other scorers included JD Berndt, Ekam Singh, and Edward Wallace, who finished with totals of 235 and 241 strokes respectively. The team will look to improve in upcoming tournaments.
