Ole Miss Men’s Tennis Advances to SEC Tournament Second Round with Win Over Tennessee
OXFORD, Miss. — Ole Miss men’s tennis secured a 4-0 victory over Tennessee on Wednesday afternoon in College Station, Texas, advancing to the second round of the SEC Tournament.
The Rebels clinched the doubles point after a tight match on the final court, with Stefano D’Agostino and Pietro Pampanin winning a tiebreaker 7-6 (7-4) against Jose Garcia and Shion Itsusaki. Alejandro Moreno and Piotr Siekanowicz also won their doubles match 6-3, securing the point for Ole Miss.
In singles play, Ole Miss quickly gained momentum. Noah Schlagenhauf defeated Shion Itsusaki 6-1, 6-4, followed by Loan Lestir’s straight-set win over Piotr Siekanowicz, 6-3, 6-4. The victory was sealed when No. 81 Stefano D’Agostino beat Jose Garcia 6-4, 6-4, to clinch the match for the Rebels.
Ole Miss, now 19-8 overall and 6-8 in SEC play, achieved its eighth match sweep of the season and its second victory over Tennessee. The win marked the first SEC Tournament victory for head coach Jake Jacoby.
The Rebels will face South Carolina on Thursday at 2 p.m. in the tournament’s second round. Ole Miss’s next opponent is the seventh seed and No. 13-ranked Gamecocks.
