Jackson, Miss. — Hayden Roberts and Yasmyne McCann have been named C Spire Athletes of the Week for Belhaven University. The awards recognize their performances in competition from last Wednesday through Tuesday, according to the school.
Roberts, a senior pitcher and outfielder from Belden, Mississippi, pitched 5.2 innings last week. He started the third game of the Cowboy Maloney Series, earning a save against LaGrange. Roberts also pitched 4.2 innings at Millsaps College, striking out four batters. Offensively, he went 8-for-15 with six RBIs for the week, the school said.
McCann, a sophomore sprinter and jumper from Gautier, Mississippi, set a personal record in the 200-meter dash with a time of 27.02 seconds last weekend. She finished fourth in the 100-meter dash with a time of 12.85 seconds and also placed fourth in the long jump with a leap of 4.89 meters, according to Belhaven.
The Belhaven baseball team is set to travel to Huntingdon College for a three-game series starting Friday. Meanwhile, McCann and the track and field team have a few days off before competing in the CCS Championships next Tuesday at Belhaven University.
