Ole Miss Football Nears End of Spring Practice with Focus on Development

Ole Miss is entering the final stretch of spring football, with head coach Pete Golding indicating progress in physicality and team development. The team is preparing for phase three of practice, which will include full pads and simulated game scenarios for the first time this spring, Golding said, adding that the team has maintained a focus on health and controlled physical contact.

Golding noted that injuries on the offensive line have led to adjustments, including more seven-on-seven drills instead of full 11-on-11 periods. He expressed confidence that these issues would not impact the team’s readiness for the upcoming season. Tight end Luke Hasz, returning from a preseason injury, said he feels fully healthy and has regained his competitive edge.

The coaching staff has praised the depth of the running back room, citing the mentality and teamwork of the group. Golding also highlighted the tight end unit, which has benefited from offensive continuity under first-year offensive coordinator John David Baker. Hasz noted that this familiarity has allowed him to deepen his understanding of the playbook and improve his on-field instincts.

Defensively, Golding acknowledged the secondary is still working on consistency but has shown encouraging flashes. He pointed out improvements in man coverage and back-end range compared to last year. Brown said the defensive line has maintained high energy and continued to adapt during spring drills, with optimism about team development heading into the season.

Golding emphasized the importance of surrounding himself with good people, maintaining stability, and recruiting well as key principles for building a successful program. He and Brown expressed enthusiasm about the team’s progress and readiness for the season, with Brown noting high energy and anticipation for the upcoming games.
