Mississippi State Distance Runners Shine at Wake Forest Invitational

Winston-Salem, N.C. — Mississippi State track and field concluded its first day of competition at the Wake Forest Invitational Thursday evening. A select group of the women’s distance team competed in three events, with more action scheduled for Friday.

In the open women’s 800 meters, Mallory Streetman posted the fastest time of the day at 2:05.76, marking a personal best for her. Nelly Jemeli, an NCAA Championship qualifier in the 3,000-meter steeplechase, opened her season with a second-place finish in 9:53.61. Her time is the second-fastest in the NCAA this season and in program history, as well as leading the SEC.

Action wrapped up in the 10,000 meters, with Naomi Jepleting and Louise Stonham competing in their first collegiate 10K. Jepleting finished in 34:20.30, the second-fastest time ever recorded by a Bulldog. Stonham followed in 34:45.75, the fourth-fastest in MSU history.
