Jackson State Women’s Tennis Dominates SWAC All-Conference Selections

Jackson State’s women’s tennis team led the Southwestern Athletic Conference with five players named to the all-conference teams, including three on the first team, the conference announced Thursday in Birmingham, Alabama.

Paula Corbalan, the SWAC Player of the Year, was a key selection on the first team. The junior from Spain posted an undefeated record in conference singles play and contributed to a 4-1 doubles record with Isabella Benavides. Corbalan also secured four match-clinching wins during the season.

Benavides, a freshman, went 5-0 in singles against SWAC opponents, primarily on court four. Helen Hernandez, a transfer from Jones College, also finished 4-0 at No. 5 singles and teamed with Victoria Linkovski, the SWAC Newcomer of the Year, to go 4-2 in doubles. Linkovski, a sophomore, was named to the second team after going undefeated in singles on court three with a 3-0 record.

Another second-team honoree was Mariia Iordanova, a sophomore who posted a 3-1 singles record in conference play, with wins over Alcorn State and Alabama A&M. The Tigers’ strong showing underscores their dominance in the league this season.
