Mississippi State Sets Program Record with Best SEC Championship Round in Day One

ST. SIMONS ISLAND, Ga. — Mississippi State set a program record Wednesday at the SEC Championship, shooting a 9-under 271 in the first round to sit sixth overall. The score surpasses the Bulldogs’ previous best of 274, achieved during the second round of the 2022 tournament, according to school officials.

Junior Dain Richie led the Bulldogs, carding a 5-under 65 to tie for 10th place. Starting on the back nine, Richie recorded four birdies in his first seven holes and finished his front nine in 31 strokes. He played his final nine in 34 to complete his best round of the season.

Ugo Malcor shot a bogey-free 2-under 68, tying for 23rd. He made two birdies and 16 pars in his 15th round of par or better this season. Freshman Garrett Endicott finished with a 69, marking his 20th round of par or better. Fellow freshman Jackson Skinner shot a 1-under 69, concluding his round with a birdie. Jackson Cook ended his day with a 5-over 75.

Mississippi State will start round two off Hole 10 at 7 a.m. Central Time. Live results are available on SCOREBOARD.

South Carolina, Ole Miss, Oklahoma, Auburn, Texas, and Florida lead the field after Day One, with Ole Miss holding a two-stroke advantage at 15 under par. The Bulldogs are nine strokes behind the leader.

Complete player results for Mississippi State include Richie at 65, Malcor and Skinner at 68 and 69 respectively, Endicott at 69, and Cook at 75.
