Northwest Mississippi Men’s Golf Team Ranks Fourth at Magicians on the Green Invitational

MEMPHIS, Tenn. — The Northwest Mississippi Community College men’s golf team finished day one of the Magicians on the Green Invitational in fourth place, hosted by NCAA Division II LeMoyne-Owen College at the Links at Pine Hill. The team was in second place after the opening 18 holes but slipped to seventh after a second-round score of 17-over par, ending the day at 24-over for the tournament, according to tournament officials.

The Rangers are only four strokes behind NCAA Division I Jackson State University and 14 strokes behind the host team, LeMoyne-Owen College. Three players are in the top 15 individually, led by sophomore Atharv Sharma. Sharma, who finished in the top five at the Ranger Men’s Invitational two weeks ago, shot a one-under 73 in the first round and was three-under after six holes. He finished with a three-over 75 in the second round, tying for ninth place overall.

Fellow sophomore Caesar Ingendorf also carded a total of five-over par after 36 holes. He finished with an impressive eight birdies, including five on the opening 18 holes, despite a five-over stretch on his first round that hurt his score. Ingendorf recovered to play even the rest of the day, capitalizing on par-fives and birdies throughout the rounds. He is tied for 13th place overall.

Cole Elander, another freshman, posted a strong first round with a one-over 75, including three birdies. His second round score of 75, which included two doubles, moved him to six-over for the day, putting him in a tie for 15th. Freshman Andrew Tuccio finished with scores of five-over and six-over in the first and second rounds, respectively, placing him in a tie for 22nd overall.

Davis Wilkins struggled in the first round, finishing 18-over with two triple-bogeys and four double-bogeys. He improved in the second round, shooting 12-over, and was the only Ranger to better his first-round score on Monday. Wilkins finished in 41st place overall with a 30-over total after 36 holes.

The final round is scheduled to begin Tuesday at 9 a.m. with a shotgun start. The Rangers will be spread across holes seven through 11, with Wilkins starting on the second tee box. Fans can follow the team’s progress at nwccrangers.com or on Northwest’s social media channels.
