Northwest Mississippi Men Sit in Fourth Place at Magicians on the Green Invitational

The Northwest Mississippi Community College men’s golf team is in fourth place after the opening day of the Magicians on the Green Invitational in Memphis, hosted by NCAA Division II LeMoyne-Owen College. The team was briefly in second place after 18 holes at the Links at Pine Hill on Monday, according to school officials.

Northwest finished the first round at seven over par but slipped to 17 over in the second round, ending the day at 24 over for the tournament. The team trails NCAA Division I Jackson State University by four strokes and is 14 strokes behind the host team, which is in second place.

Three Rangers are in the top 15 individually. Leading the way is sophomore Atharv Sharma, who posted a one-under 73 in the first round and finished with a three-over 75 in the second. Sharma is tied for ninth place overall, just two strokes over par for the day. He is coming off a top-five finish at the Ranger Men’s Invitational two weeks ago.

Fellow German sophomore Caesar Ingendorf also shot a combined five-over par after 36 holes. He finished with a three-over 75 in the second round, after a two-over opening round, and is tied for 13th. Ingendorf recorded eight birdies during the day, including five in the opening round, and was hampered by a six-over stretch on his first nine holes before recovering to play even the rest of the day.

Junior Cole Elander posted a strong first round with a one-over 73, but his second round was marred by two double bogeys, resulting in a 75 for the day. He finished six-over overall and tied for 15th. Freshman Andrew Tuccio posted a pair of consistent rounds, finishing at five-over and six-over, respectively, and is tied for 22nd.

Senior Davis Wilkins improved on his first-round score, which included two triple-bogeys and four double-bogeys, by shooting 12-over in the second round. He finished the day in 41st place with a total of 30 over par after 36 holes. The final round is scheduled to begin at 9 a.m. Tuesday with a shotgun start, with the team spread between the seventh and 11th holes. Wilkins will start on the second tee box.
