Northwest Mississippi Women’s Golf Ranks Fifth After Day One at Lady Ranger Invitational

The Northwest Mississippi Community College women’s golf team is in fifth place after the first day of the Lady Ranger Invitational at Tunica National Golf Club, according to school officials. The tournament features teams from last year’s national tournament, including defending champion Shelton State Community College and top-five finisher Murray State College in Oklahoma.

Playing mostly freshmen, Northwest finished the 36-hole day with scores of 43-over and 46-over, ending seven strokes behind fourth place and 24 strokes shy of Shelton State, which is in second place. Elsa Lomas Castillo led the team with a tie for sixth place individually, shooting a combined 13-over. She posted rounds of six-over and seven-over, including four birdies on her opening 18 holes.

Fellow freshman Rylee Summerlin closely followed, finishing 18-over for the day and placing 14th. She recorded nearly identical rounds, with 10 pars and one birdie, though she struggled on the stretch from holes 16 through 18. Other team members, including Elizabeth Kilpatrick, Graysa Enders, and Avery Baker, finished in the top 30 for the day.

Kilpatrick finished with a total of 29-over, placing 25th, while Enders was one spot back in 26th after rounds of 13-over and 17-over. Baker posted rounds of 16-over each, finishing 29th overall. Freshman Evalynn Ward completed the team’s field, overcoming some early struggles to finish 62nd, with an 85-over total.

Northwest will resume play early Tuesday morning, with tee times starting at 8:30 a.m. Ward begins the day, followed by Baker, Enders, Kilpatrick, Summerlin, and Castillo. Fans can follow the team’s progress at nwccrangers.com or through Northwest athletics’ social media accounts.
