Southern Miss Women’s Golf Ends Sun Belt Championship Run in Eighth Place
The Southern Miss women’s golf team saw its run at the Sun Belt Championships conclude Wednesday at Lakewood Golf Club in Point Clear, Alabama. The Golden Eagles finished eighth in the tournament, with the top four teams advancing to the match-play rounds.
Louise Cuyvers led Southern Miss, finishing in a tie for 28th place with a three-round total of 213. She shot a final round 70, including an eagle on the first hole and three birdies. Fernanda Gorostiaga posted a 74 in her final round, ending with a total of 231, while Taylor Trible and Savannah Van Gaalen each shot 75 in the final round, tying for 33rd and 36th overall, respectively.
The team finished with a total score of 294, two strokes behind Tuesday’s 292. Their round was tied for the fifth-best of the day. Alma Betoret, who was used as a substitute, shot an 83 in her round.
ULM, South Alabama and Texas State advanced to the match-play stage as the top three seeds. Old Dominion and Coastal Carolina went into a playoff for the fourth seed, with Old Dominion earning the spot by shooting even par as a team during the playoff.
Southern Miss’s overall team score for the tournament was 885. The Eagles did not qualify for the match play, which involves the top four teams from the field.
Individual results for Southern Miss include Cuyvers in 28th, Trible in 36th, Van Gaalen in 42nd, Gorostiaga in 46th, Liv Romer in 64th, and Betoret in 66th place.
The Sun Belt Championship field included 13 teams, with ULM leading at the end of play. The tournament took place from Tuesday through Wednesday at Lakewood Golf Club.
