Southern Miss Women’s Golf Climbs Five Spots at Sun Belt Championships

POINT CLEAR, Ala. — The Southern Miss women’s golf team improved its standing at the Sun Belt Championships after shooting a 292 on Tuesday at Lakewood Golf Club. The Golden Eagles advanced five spots into seventh place, marking their lowest score since October and their best spring round by five strokes, according to school officials.

Louise Cuyvers led the team with a three-under 69, which included six birdies, four of them on the front nine. She is tied for fifth overall. Taylor Trible posted an even-par 72, moving into a tie for 19th, while Savannah Van Gaalen shot a 74 to tie for 32nd. Fernanda Gorostiaga improved her score from the first round to a five-over 77, and Liv Romer shot an 80, which included the team’s first eagle of the tournament on the par-five 16th hole.

Southern Miss recorded 17 team birdies on Tuesday, bringing its total to 28 for the tournament. That is second behind ULM’s 31 and four more than the next team. Romer’s eagle was one of four scored this week by golfers from Georgia Southern, Coastal Carolina, and Texas State. The Sun Belt Championships will continue through Wednesday, with live streaming available on ESPN+.
