Jones College celebrates 2016 baseball national champions
ELLISVILLE — Members of Jones College’s 2016 baseball national championship team were recognized Saturday at Community Bank Park before the first pitch of a doubleheader against Northeast Mississippi Community College.
Twenty-two players from the championship team attended the event, which marked the 10th anniversary of their title. The celebration included a golf outing Friday, a banquet Friday night, and a meal sponsored by Ka’Rock on Saturday for game day.
Each player was introduced at their original position from the 2016 season, when the Bobcats set a school record with 54 wins. That team became the first from Mississippi to win a national baseball title.
Jones swept Northeast in the doubleheader, winning 12-5 and 7-1, improving their record to 33-12 on the season.
