Southern Miss Golfer Louise Cuyvers Earns All-Sun Belt Second Team Honor
NEW ORLEANS — Louise Cuyvers, a sophomore golfer at the University of Southern Mississippi, has been named to the All-Sun Belt Second Team, according to a league release Tuesday.
The Belgian native led the Golden Eagles with a 73.1 stroke average this season, nearly two strokes better than her freshman year. Her average ranks as the second-lowest in program history, behind Momoka Ando’s 72.9 during the 2023-24 season.
Cuyvers competed in all 10 events, totaling 27 rounds. She finished fourth at the Sun Belt Championships after shooting a 213. Earlier in the season, she posted back-to-back top-three finishes at the Lady Clerico and Hawkeye Invitational tournaments. Her season-low score of 211 came at the Lady Clerico.
The sophomore also recorded 14 rounds of par or better golf, the second-most in a single season for Southern Miss, behind Ando’s 15 in the previous season. Cuyvers is one of only two Golden Eagles to earn All-Sun Belt honors, joining Ando.
The Sun Belt announced its annual awards Tuesday, naming Johanna Sjursen of ULM as Women’s Golfer of the Year and Grace Quintanilla of Texas State as Women’s Freshman of the Year. Cuyvers’s teammate, Momoka Ando, received All-Sun Belt first-team honors as well.
Southern Miss recently concluded its run at the Sun Belt Championships. The team had notable performances earlier in the season, including a five-spot jump in the league tournament standings and a strong start at Lakewood Golf Club.
