Lincoln University to Face Mississippi Valley State at 2026 Chicago Football Classic
The Chicago Football Classic announced Monday that Lincoln University of Pennsylvania will play Mississippi Valley State University on Saturday, Sept. 12, at 3 p.m. at Soldier Field.
The event will mark the Classic’s return after a one-year hiatus in 2025. It is part of the annual “More Than a Game” week, celebrating HBCU culture through football, music, scholarships, and community programs, organizers said.
Everett Rand, a founder of the Chicago Football Classic, said the event brings together students, families, alumni, and Chicago residents to honor HBCU heritage and support educational opportunities. “We’re proud to continue that tradition and welcome Lincoln University and Mississippi Valley State to the city,” Rand stated.
The Classic also serves as an economic engine for Chicago, attracting thousands of visitors and boosting local businesses including hotels and restaurants, Rand added. Since its founding in 1997 by Rand, Tim Rand, and Larry Huggins, the event has aimed to promote awareness of HBCUs and increase college enrollment among local students.
Through scholarships and programs, the Classic has awarded more than $1 million to students since 2020. It also hosts an HBCU college fair and empowerment summit, connecting over 4,000 students with representatives from more than 30 HBCUs, organizers said.
Tickets are priced at $20, $30, and $45 and are available at www.chicagofootballclassic.org. Additional information about the event, sponsorship opportunities, and scholarships can also be found on the website.
