Mississippi College Women’s Tennis Advances to NCAA Regional Second Round

MIAMI SHORES, Fla. — Mississippi College women’s tennis opened NCAA South Region I play with a 4-1 victory over West Alabama at the Buccaneer Tennis Center. The win sends the Choctaws (23-1) into the second round against top-seeded Barry.

Mississippi College took the doubles point after dropping the first match at No. 1 doubles. Rocio Martinez and Anna Hudson secured the point with a 6-4 win at No. 2 doubles, and Katharina Weber and Molly Bennett clinched it with a 7-5 victory at No. 3 doubles.

In singles, the Choctaws dominated the top of the lineup. Emily Buchanan opened with a straight-sets win at No. 1 singles, 6-3, 6-4, over Shaira Rivera. Martinez followed with a 6-4, 6-4 victory at No. 2 singles, giving Mississippi College a 3-0 lead.

West Alabama earned its only point at No. 3 singles, but Hudson sealed the match with a 7-5, 6-3 win at No. 4 singles. Matches at No. 5 and No. 6 singles remained unfinished. The victory sets up a match against Barry on Saturday morning at 9 a.m. CT in Miami Shores, a major test for the Choctaws as they continue their NCAA Tournament run.
