Jones College staves off elimination with 7-1 win over Johnson County at NJCAA World Series

Spartanburg, S.C. — Jones College faced elimination Thursday at the NJCAA Division II World Series but responded with a 7-1 victory over No. 15 Johnson County to stay alive in the tournament. The Bobcats had earlier fallen 5-2 to second-ranked Murray State College.

In the first game of the day, Murray State built a 5-0 lead early, highlighted by Kaylee Carter’s two home runs. Jones managed just three hits through four innings and was unable to overcome the deficit. Farrah James and Addy Shorter homered for the Bobcats, but Murray State held on for the win. Madison Sawyer started pitching for Jones, with Morgan Landry working in relief, according to the team.

Later, Jones quickly responded against Johnson County. The Bobcats scored in the first inning on singles by Annaston Tate and Mary Kimble Price, with Mabry Eason delivering an RBI single. Johnson County tied the game in the third, but Jones regained the lead in the fifth with a triple by Laney Little and a sacrifice fly by Price. They broke the game open in the sixth inning, scoring four runs on key hits from Little, Tate, and Price, to secure the 7-1 win.

Jones finished with 12 hits, led by Little and Tate with two each. Little drove in three runs, and Price added two RBIs and scored once. Morgan Landry improved to 9-2, allowing just five hits and one unearned run while stranding six runners, according to the team.

The Bobcats will face No. 7 St. Johns River State College in the quarterfinals Friday at 12:30 p.m. CST. Live video and stats are available through NJCAA.org.
