Jones softball sweeps Hinds with late-game heroics from Farrah James
ELLISVILLE — Jones College extended its winning streak over Hinds to 46 games with a doubleheader sweep Tuesday. The Bobcats defeated the Eagles 10-0 in five innings and 3-1 in the nightcap.
In the opening game, Madison Sawyer pitched a two-hit shutout and went 4-for-4 at the plate. Jones scored twice in the first inning on RBI singles from Sawyer and Marlee Dampeer and added six runs in the fifth inning, highlighted by Mabry Eason’s three-run double. Sawyer (18-1) struck out back-to-back batters to end the game early via run rule. Jones out-hit Hinds 16-2.
The second game was tied 1-1 in the seventh when Farrah James delivered a two-out, two-run single to left-center field, breaking the tie. The Bobcats then held on for the win. Hinds took an early lead in the first inning on an RBI single from Emma Hudson, but Jones responded with a run in the top of the first on Madison Sawyer’s RBI single.
Morgan Landry (8-2) pitched a complete game for Jones, allowing five hits and one run while earning her first win in six weeks. James finished with nine RBIs on the season after her clutch hit. The Bobcats improved to 43-8 overall and 22-4 in the Mississippi Association of Community Colleges Conference.
Jones will host Itawamba Community College on Friday, April 24, at 2 p.m. in the regular season finale. Tickets are $8 online or $10 at the gate. The games will be streamed at jcbobcats.com/watch.
