Hinds Track & Field Wins Four National Titles at NJCAA Outdoor Championships

HOBBS, N.M. — Hinds Community College’s track and field program achieved a strong showing at the NJCAA Division I Outdoor Championships, finishing sixth nationally on the men’s side and ninth on the women’s side. The team captured four individual and relay national titles during the meet.

Queen Usunobun led the way for the Hinds women, winning the 400-meter dash in 53.43 seconds. She later anchored the women’s 4×400-meter relay team to a national championship with a time of 3:37.22, marking the first time in program history the relay team won a gold medal at the NJCAA outdoor meet. Usunobun, a four-time national champion and 19-time NJCAA All-American, closed her career with multiple titles.

On the men’s side, Jayval Wright claimed the 200-meter dash title in 19.91 seconds and finished second in the 100-meter dash with a time of 9.96 seconds. Wright, a two-time national champion, highlighted his weekend by earning top honors in both sprints. Shadane Smith added another gold medal, winning the men’s 400-meter hurdles in 50.19 seconds.

Hinds also saw several athletes earn podium finishes and All-America honors. Matthew Sullivan was the runner-up in the men’s 110-meter hurdles with a time of 13.28 seconds. The men’s 4×100-meter relay team, consisting of Raheem Pinnock, Wright, Craig Carson, and Curtis Coleman III, finished third in 39.37 seconds. On the women’s side, Mikenzy Hodges-Woods finished third in the 100-meter hurdles in 13.20 seconds and seventh in the 400-meter hurdles. Caneilia Hope scored points in both the 100 and 200 meters, placing fourth and sixth, respectively, while Madison Rhodes finished sixth in the 400 meters.

Raheem Pinnock also contributed with a seventh-place finish in the 100-meter dash. The men’s 4×400-meter relay team, composed of Deshaun Gordon, Carson, Da’Jarian Leonard, and Nathanael Abrahams, posted a time of 3:08.09 in the finals.

With four national titles, multiple podium finishes, and top-10 team placements, Hinds concluded the meet on a high note. The program demonstrated its strength and competitiveness on the national stage once again.
