Hinds Community College Track and Field Advances to Finals at NJCAA Championships

HOBBS, N.M. — Hinds Community College’s track and field team continued its momentum on day two of the NJCAA Division I Outdoor Championships. Several athletes advanced to the finals with strong performances across multiple events, according to school officials.

The men’s sprint group led the way early, with Raheem Pinnock posting the fastest qualifying time in the 100-meter dash at 9.93 seconds. His teammate, Jayval Wright, qualified third overall with a time of 9.94 seconds. Wright later secured a spot in the 200-meter dash finals with a time of 19.92, while Pinnock added another finals appearance with a 20.07 finish.

On the women’s side, Caneilia Hope qualified for the 100-meter dash final after finishing fourth in her heat with a time of 11.42 seconds. She also competed in the 200-meter dash, clocking in at 23.39 seconds. In the hurdles, Matthew Sullivan finished second overall in the 110-meter hurdles with a time of 13.46 seconds. Mikenzy Hodges-Woods advanced in the 100-meter hurdles after crossing in 13.66 seconds.

The day’s highlight came from the women’s 4×400-meter relay team, which included Queen Usunobun, Akaree Roberts, Angel Cumberbatch, and Madison Rhodes. They won their heat in 3:38.18, positioning themselves for a strong finals run. The men’s 4×400-meter relay team of Deshaun Gordon, Craig Carson, Nathanael Abrahams, and Da’Jarian Leonard also posted a competitive time of 3:09.91, keeping their championship hopes alive.

With several athletes advancing, the Eagles are now preparing for finals on championship Saturday. Officials say the team is in a good position to make a significant impact as the competition continues.
