Chuck Brown Named Head Coach of Millsaps Tennis Programs
Millsaps College in Jackson, Mississippi, announced Monday that Chuck Brown has been named head coach for its men’s and women’s tennis programs. Brown, who has accumulated 304 coaching wins since 2000, most recently led Brescia University’s teams, guiding the women’s squad to a winning record after three losing seasons.
At Brescia, Brown’s teams qualified for the conference tournament, with the women reaching the postseason for the first time in a decade. He also spent the 2022-23 season as head coach at Kentucky Wesleyan College, an NCAA Division II school. Brown has regional coaching roots, having led Pillow Academy in Greenwood to state titles in boys and girls tennis in 2018 and served as director of tennis at Greenwood Country Club and Twin Rivers Recreation.
Brown expressed enthusiasm about returning to Mississippi, praising Millsaps’ campus and athletic facilities. “I am happy to be back home in Mississippi from Kentucky,” he said. “The Southern Athletic Association is one of the best conferences in the country, and I am excited to be a Major!”
Brown’s coaching career also includes a 16-year stint at Transylvania University from 2000 to 2016. During that time, he earned nine straight Heartland Conference Coach of the Year awards for men’s tennis and three for women’s. His teams won nine consecutive HCAC championships between 2003 and 2011. He also received USPTA and USTA coaching honors and coached numerous all-conference athletes.
Justin LeBlanc, Millsaps’ athletics director, praised Brown’s experience, saying he brings a winning record, player development skills, and recruiting expertise. “We are excited to welcome Chuck to Millsaps and look forward to his impact,” LeBlanc said.
Academic achievement was also a focus during his coaching career, with teams earning GPA awards and 54 scholar-athletes making the Heartland Academic All-Conference with at least a 3.50 GPA. Brown’s early career included work at the University of Kentucky, where he helped the women’s team secure its only SEC regular-season title in 2004-05.
He holds USPTA and USRSA certifications, attended Ferris State University for Professional Tennis Management, and played collegiately at Meridian Community College. Brown has been a USTA member since 1994 and has held multiple leadership roles, spoken at coaching symposiums, and earned several certifications.
