Columbus, Miss. — Zach Johnson, a senior outfielder and first baseman for Mississippi University for Women, has been named the St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SLIAC) Player of the Year. Johnson’s award marks the first time a MUW player has earned the league’s top baseball honor, according to school officials.
Johnson, who played rightfield and some first base, led the league in runs scored with 39 and ranked among the top in multiple categories. He finished third in hits with 37, third in home runs with seven, and seventh in RBIs with 27. Johnson also posted a .667 slugging percentage, a .409 batting average overall, and a .374 average in conference games, the third-highest in MUW history, according to school records.
Four MUW players received All-SLIAC honors. Chase Marshall, a junior infielder from Moody, Alabama, led the team with a .390 batting average and ranked in the league’s top 10 in several categories, including RBIs and OPS. Senior outfielder Baron Brack from Pike Road, Alabama, was a first-team selection and led the conference in RBIs with 40 and triples with three. Brack has now earned All-SLIAC recognition for the third time.
Senior outfielder Matthew Windham of Chelsea, Alabama, was named to the third team. Windham hit .340 in league play and was second in at-bats with 106. He also ranked high in runs, triples, and total hits, while maintaining a defensive fielding percentage of .975 with just two errors in 79 chances, school officials said.
