Texas Rallies from Deficit to Beat Mississippi State in Series Finale
Texas erased a five-run deficit with a nine-run third inning and held on to beat Mississippi State 11-6 Sunday at Disch-Falk Field.
Mississippi State (36-12, 14-10 SEC) took an early lead after Bryce Chance hit a grand slam in the first inning, scoring three teammates and giving the Bulldogs a 5-0 advantage.
Texas (35-10, 15-8 SEC) responded with a big inning in the third, sending nine batters to the plate and scoring nine runs. Charlie Foster opened the inning with three walks and a hit-by-pitch, loading the bases. The Longhorns then scored with help from singles by Anthony Pack Jr. and Adrian Rodriguez, a double from Temo Becerra, and a two-run double by Casey Borba.
The Longhorns added another run in the fourth on Becerra’s second RBI double, increasing their lead to 10-5. Mississippi State scored once more in the sixth, but left the bases loaded and did not score again.
Austin Robbins led Texas with two hits, two RBIs, and two walks. Bryce Chance went 2-for-2 with a home run, four RBIs, two walks, and a stolen base. Jacob Parker also contributed with a triple, an RBI, and two runs scored. Mississippi State’s offense was limited to four hits and struck out 11 times.
Luke Harrison earned the win for Texas, improving to 5-2, after allowing five runs on three hits over five innings. Jack Gleason took the loss for Mississippi State, falling to 3-1, as the Bulldogs used eight pitchers in the game.
Mississippi State returns home Tuesday to face Nicholls in their final midweek game of the season, scheduled for 6 p.m. on SEC Network+.
