Mississippi State Pulls Off Road Win Against No. 4 Texas

Mississippi State evened its weekend series against No. 4 Texas with a 7-4 victory Saturday at Disch-Falk Field in Austin. The Bulldogs scored six runs in the seventh and eighth innings after a tight pitching duel, securing a marquee road win, according to MSU athletics.

Jacob Parker hit a solo home run in the fourth, giving Mississippi State an early lead. Drew Wyers broke open the game in the seventh with a three-run homer, turning a one-run lead into a 5-1 advantage. The Bulldogs added two more runs in the eighth to extend their lead.

The Longhorns mounted a rally in the ninth, scoring three runs and putting the tying run on base. Dane Burns struck out Anthony Pack Jr. with the bases loaded to seal the win for Mississippi State. Texas threatened late, bringing the potential tying run to the plate, but Burns delivered the final out.

Starter Duke Stone pitched five innings for MSU, allowing one run on five hits. Jack Bauer earned the win, improving to 4-0 after 2 1/3 scoreless innings. Texas starter Ruger Riojas pitched well early, allowing one run on three hits over five innings before giving way to the bullpen.

Kevin Milewski and Bryce Chance contributed key hits for Mississippi State, which overcame three errors and 10 walks by Texas. The Bulldogs and Longhorns will meet in the series finale Sunday at 1 p.m. on ESPN. Mississippi State’s Charlie Foster and Texas’s Luke Harrison are scheduled to start.
