Southern Miss Softball Drops Doubleheader to ULM to End Regular Season

MONROE, La. — Southern Miss softball lost both games of a doubleheader to ULM on Saturday afternoon at the ULM Softball Complex. The Golden Eagles fell 1-0 in the first game and 2-1 in the second, ending their regular season.

In the opener, pitcher Madilyn Graham threw just eight pitches in the first inning, recording three groundouts. She continued to keep the Warhawks off the board until the bottom of the fourth, when Morgan Brown scored on a double after reaching on a dropped third strike. Southern Miss attempted a rally in the sixth, with Madison Johnson and Julia Glasgow reaching base, but ULM secured the win with a strikeout double play.

The second game featured Kayla Giardina on the mound for the Golden Eagles. She struck out two in the first two innings and retired the Warhawks in order in the fourth. ULM scored twice in the fifth to take a 2-0 lead, capitalizing on walks and a double. Southern Miss responded in the seventh when Kayce Bennett hit her fifth home run of the season, but ULM closed the game with a strikeout and a flyout to seal the sweep.

Southern Miss finished the regular season with a 33-23 record overall and a 14-10 mark in Sun Belt Conference play, tying their most conference wins since 2016. Head coach Natalie Poole surpassed her previous high of 23 wins, finishing with 33 for the season. The team is set to compete in the Sun Belt Championship Tournament starting Wednesday.
