Rougetet Secures Second Consecutive NCAA Ticket for Mississippi State

LEXINGTON, Ky. — Mississippi State track and field advanced another athlete to the NCAA Championships during the second day of the NCAA East First Rounds on Thursday.

Marie Rougetet highlighted the day with a victory in the hammer throw, recording a personal best of 70.16 meters. The mark was the farthest among competitors from both the East and West regions and set a new program record, according to meet officials.

De’Kayla Simpson also made her mark, finishing the 400 meters in 51.58 seconds. The time improved her on the program’s freshman record and was the second-fastest in school history. She will compete in the 400-meter quarterfinals Saturday after earning a qualifying spot based on her time.

Ife Adisa automatically qualified for the 800-meter quarterfinals with a third-place finish in her section in 2:03.02. Anje Nel secured her spot in the 400-meter hurdles with a time of 58.04 seconds, which also moved her to third on Mississippi State’s all-time list. She advances to Saturday’s quarterfinals.

The men’s portion of the meet concludes Friday, with field events starting in the discus and track events beginning with the 4×100-meter relay. The meet is streaming on ESPN+ with live results available online, according to meet organizers.
