Ole Miss Women’s Golf Tied for Third at SEC Championship After Day One

The University of Mississippi women’s golf team is in the hunt after the first day of the SEC Championship at Pelican Golf Club in Belleair, Florida. The Rebels shot a 277, 3-under par, and are tied for third place, just one stroke behind the leaders, Texas A&M and Mississippi State, according to tournament officials.

Mary Miller, a sophomore making her championship debut, fired an impressive 66. She started her round at 8:20 a.m. CT and made the turn with a 34. Her second nine was marked by three birdies, finishing bogey-free with a 32. Miller is tied for the individual lead with Vanessa Borovilos of Texas A&M and Avery Weed of Mississippi State.

Two other Ole Miss players, Kajsalotta Svarvar and Filippa Sundquist, posted even-par scores. Sundquist was 1-over through 12 holes but finished her round with a six-hole stretch at 1-under. Svarvar recorded her 15th round of par or better this season, and both sit tied for 21st entering Saturday’s second round.

Sophie Linder finished at 1-over par, while Matilda Björkman shot a 73. The Rebels excelled in par-4 scoring, playing them 4-under par as a team, and ranked third in par-3 scoring for the day.
